You
cannot explain in total the means of destruction of any trucking company. Attempts to explain economics and a carrier
shut down inside the Obama political economy becomes coldly analytical and
mostly misses the truth never to be told in charts and graphs.
Yes,
they are arguments of low rates, too much government regulations, high taxes,
costly loans, bad deals, and the irrefutable
Teamster union threats that doom and never compromise. You see, NCT, didn't shut down, not really, they just changed all the rules.
The men and women of NCT New Century Transportation have lost their chance to learn and prosper, build and admire and work inside another Harry Muhlschlegel business model that sets the pace, runs the race, plays to win and builds a team but, they don't know it.
They were too busy on FACEBOOK writing out their thoughts and explaining their own failure to unionize NCT New Century Transportation. The losers got personal and called out names, business deals and all their business advice and hindsight being typed for all to see. Now their unemployed. Now they cannot learn from one of the best transportation minds in the industry. They were too busy playing trucking to learn transportation. They will continue to complain, apply for jobs, look for a sign on bonus but they will never blame themselves, the missed opportunity to participate in something bigger and better.
Within
the capitalistic free enterprise system in America a man or woman can start a
trucking company today, maybe they should do that. The market is
free for any person to enter, buy the trucks, building the buildings, hire the
men and women that drive the future. But
these are the building blocks of a free market business, the environment of
unions that they wanted is much different. The Teamster Union has nothing to do with the free market, craftsmanship and pride of a job well done.
The
Teamsters want a special advantage over the employees and employers and agree
to sell their union influence, authority and weight for a monthly union fee. With revolutionary aims the union destroys the
host employer and everyone will lose in the end. The men and women that wanted a union contract at NCT discovered the true free market when NCT closed it's doors and parked the trucks. Pink slips are a dime a dozen so they were mailed by the thousands. You see, the guy with the checkbook wins. It's the free market. The Teamsters cannot hire you. They don't have trucks or jobs. The Teamsters at the highest levels are still monitored by the government, you have to watch possible thugs and organized crime elements.
The
men and women that want to sell their labor, wants the most money for the only
product they have to sell, their time and work ethic. Everybody wants to most money including the motor freight carrier. If NCT could raise rates I'm positive that Harry would have shared in the wealth. Don't you remember how nice the truck was that you parked and then limped home. What will the unemployed driver tell his wife this time? Who's fault is it this time? How can the same driver, be wrong, over and over again. The wife will want to know about insurance. The kids still want to go on vacation. The house payment is still due.
But
what is the correct price for that labor?
What is the true value, in market terms, of a tractor trailer
driver? The driver wants to sell his
labor-power and the capitalist wants a profit.
There can be no profit if everything is sold at the exact value. A Teamster driver is just too expensive to make a profit. A Teamster benefit package is way out of line and the carrier cannot afford the expense. The driver can want but the market must provide not just the carrier. America won't support unions and their high costs. Unions have been proven to be corrupt and political, maybe the laid off driver can explain all this to his wife that won't sleep too well tonight.
So,
when the union sets an excessive price for labor that means all the profit has
been removed because the market disagrees with the Teamsters Union and their
wage demands. The truck driver can yell but it does not change the market. The driver can have a Teamster contract but that just kills his future.
Now,
all the workers at NCT New Century Transportation will lose their jobs, in fact
they already have lost them. These men and
women are now available to the job market and must try to sell their human
labor to trucking companies remaining in business.
The NCT New Century Transportation trucks
will be parked but, not for long. The
machines will be placed back into service and with increasingly poor results
the union, the people that fear capitalism, which in a sense created them, will
destroy itself.
